What we build on BuddyBoss

BuddyBoss is really three products that have to agree with each other: the Platform plugin, the Theme and the App. Most of our work sits where those three meet your LMS and your payment setup.

Platform setup and component planning

We decide which components you need (activity, groups, forums, messages, media, network search), configure profile types and group types, and set privacy defaults before the first member signs up.

BuddyBoss Theme customization

Child theme work, header and login layouts, course and group templates, and Elementor sections that follow the Theme's styles instead of fighting them.

LearnDash, LifterLMS and Tutor LMS integration

Link LearnDash courses to social groups, show the Courses tab on member profiles, and configure the LifterLMS and Tutor LMS integrations so enrollment, groups and activity line up. We test unenrollment too, which is where sync usually breaks.

BuddyBoss App build and store publishing

We configure the BuddyBoss App plugin, branding, tab bar and push notifications, then work through the Apple and Google publishing checklists until your iOS and Android apps are approved.

Memberships and paid access

MemberPress or WooCommerce products mapped to Member Access Controls, private groups and course enrollment, plus in-app purchases in the app where store rules require them.

Messaging, notifications and live sessions

Live messaging over Pusher, OneSignal web push, email notification templates and Zoom meetings inside groups, tuned so members get useful alerts rather than a flood.

Custom BuddyBoss development

New activity types, profile fields, directory filters, REST endpoints and app screens built on BuddyBoss actions, filters and template overrides, so Platform updates leave your work intact.

Performance and moderation cleanup

Activity feeds and group queries get heavy as a community ages. We profile slow pages, add object caching, trim media bloat and set up reporting and blocking so admins can keep up.

Why LMS Advisor

Why course communities bring their BuddyBoss work to us

Community and LMS in one team

We work on the LMS plugin and BuddyBoss together, so a group sync bug never bounces between two vendors blaming each other.

Update-safe changes

Customizations live in a child theme and small plugins, never in edited core files, so new BuddyBoss releases install cleanly.

Store submissions prepared properly

We prepare privacy details, screenshots and reviewer test accounts before submitting, which is where most first app submissions stall.

A project manager who owns the dates

One PM runs your milestones and gives you direct access to the developer writing the code.

Code and data stay yours

You own every line we write, and the whole project runs under an NDA from the first call.

Zero billing guarantee

If the delivered work does not meet the agreed scope, you do not pay for it, or we refund what you paid.

How we work

From first call to launch

Free consultation

We talk through your members, courses and revenue model, and review the current site if you already have one.

Written scope and quote

Every component, integration and app screen is listed with milestones and a price, so you know exactly what you are buying.

Build on staging

Work happens on a staging copy with realistic test members, so group sync, access rules and notifications are proven before launch.

Launch and store submission

The web community goes live first, then we submit the app to the App Store and Google Play under your own developer accounts.

Support after launch

We stay available for post-launch fixes and offer a monthly care plan for updates and monitoring.

Typical projects

Work we are asked to do

Course creator with a paid community

A creator selling LearnDash courses wants each cohort in its own private group, with discussions, live Zoom calls and a monthly MemberPress subscription controlling access.

Professional association

Members need profile types by credential level, a searchable directory, chapter forums and CPD courses, with access that follows membership status automatically.

Coaching program going mobile

An established BuddyBoss site needs iOS and Android apps with push notifications and in-app purchases, because members keep asking where the app is.

Slow community rescue

Years of activity posts and uploaded media have made the feed crawl. The fix is query profiling, media cleanup and proper caching, not a bigger server.

Where BuddyBoss projects usually go wrong

BuddyBoss looks simple in a demo. Install the Platform plugin, activate the Theme, connect LearnDash, done. Real projects get harder once members arrive, because three separate products, an LMS plugin and a payment plugin all have opinions about who can see what.

Groups and courses drift apart

The most common support request we see is a learner who bought a course but cannot see the matching group, or a learner who left a course and still posts in it. That happens when enrollment is granted by one plugin (WooCommerce, MemberPress or the LMS itself) and group membership is expected to follow. We map every path into and out of a course, including refunds, expired subscriptions and manual admin changes, then test each one on staging.

The feed gets slow

A new community feels fast. Two years later the activity table holds hundreds of thousands of rows, members have uploaded large photos and videos, and every page load asks for notifications, unread messages and group counts. We look at the actual queries with Query Monitor, add a persistent object cache, move media to sensible sizes and switch off components nobody uses. The goal is a feed that loads quickly for a member on a phone, not a good score on a testing tool.

The app gets rejected

The BuddyBoss App is a real native app, which means Apple and Google review it like any other. Submissions stall on missing privacy details, a reviewer who cannot log in, or paid content sold outside in-app purchases. We prepare those items before the first submission and keep your developer accounts in your name.

What a BuddyBoss build with us includes

  • A component plan: which BuddyBoss features to turn on, and which to leave off for now.
  • Profile types, group types and access rules that match how you sell.
  • LMS integration with LearnDash, LifterLMS or Tutor LMS, tested for enrollment and unenrollment.
  • Theme customization in a child theme, including course, group and profile templates.
  • Notifications that respect member preferences: email, web push through OneSignal and in-app push.
  • Optional BuddyBoss App configuration, branding and store submission.
  • Handover notes that list every override, custom plugin and setting we changed.

Custom features, done without forking

Clients ask for things BuddyBoss does not ship with: a points leaderboard per group, a directory filter by certification, an automatic welcome post when someone completes a course, or a custom app screen that shows upcoming live sessions. We build these as small plugins on BuddyBoss hooks and the App plugin's developer APIs, often alongside GamiPress or AutomatorWP when those already cover part of the job. Nothing is written into core files, so the next BuddyBoss release is an update, not a rebuild.

Fixed scope, clear ownership

Every project starts with a free consultation and a written scope. You get a dedicated project manager, direct access to your developer, milestone reports and on-time delivery against the dates in your quote. All code belongs to you, the work is covered by an NDA, and our zero billing guarantee means you do not pay for work that misses the agreed scope. If you would rather add a developer to your own team instead of commissioning a project, see our hire a BuddyBoss developer page.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What is BuddyBoss best suited for?
BuddyBoss suits sites where members learn and talk in the same place, such as cohort courses, associations, coaching programs and paid communities. It adds profiles, groups, activity feeds, forums and messaging to WordPress, and the Theme and App keep the look consistent on web and mobile. If you only need courses with no community, a plain LMS plugin with a lighter theme is usually simpler.
Can you move my BuddyPress or bbPress site to BuddyBoss?
Yes. BuddyBoss Platform grew out of BuddyPress and bbPress, so members, groups, activity and forums generally carry over. The parts that need work are custom templates and third-party BuddyPress add-ons, which we test and replace on staging before switching the live site.
Which LMS plugins work with BuddyBoss?
LearnDash has the deepest integration, including courses linked to social groups and a Courses tab on member profiles. BuddyBoss also integrates with LifterLMS and Tutor LMS, and we can build custom bridges for other plugins using their hooks. We help you pick based on how you sell courses and how much group-level reporting you need.
How much does a BuddyBoss project cost?
It depends on scope, so we quote after a free consultation instead of publishing rates. A Theme and settings cleanup is a small project, while custom components, LMS sync and a published app take longer. Your quote lists every item and milestone, so there are no surprise invoices.
Can you build and publish the BuddyBoss App for us?
Yes. We configure the BuddyBoss App plugin, set up branding, tabs and push notifications, and handle the App Store and Google Play submissions using developer accounts in your name. Keeping the accounts yours means you control the listings after handover.
Can you add custom features without breaking BuddyBoss updates?
Yes, that is our default way of working. Custom code goes into a child theme or a small plugin built on BuddyBoss actions, filters and template overrides, so Platform and Theme updates do not overwrite it. We also document every override for whoever maintains the site later.
Why is my BuddyBoss site slow, and can you fix it?
In most cases, yes. Typical causes are heavy activity queries, oversized media, plugins loading on every page and no persistent object cache. We profile your site, fix the worst offenders first and show before and after timings from your own pages.
Do you offer ongoing BuddyBoss maintenance?
Yes. Monthly plans cover Platform, Theme, App plugin and LMS updates tested on staging, backups, security checks and fixes when an update clashes with custom code. We scope each plan after a free audit of your site.
