LMS Advisor vs LearnUpon: which one fits your training?
LearnUpon is a cloud LMS for employee, customer and partner training, sold from 100 users up with portals, a store and a report builder. LMS Advisor adds proctored exams, candidates outside any course and a server you own. Checked against LearnUpon’s own pages in October 2026.
Our honest take
Pick LearnUpon if you have more than 100 users, want separate branded sub-portals per audience with a built-in store, and need a certified vendor with a report builder. Pick LMS Advisor if you run proctored or certification exams, examine candidates who never enroll in a course, have fewer than 100 learners, or want to self-host on a one-time license.
LearnUpon is a well-run SaaS LMS. Its pages describe a top portal with sub-portals for each audience, a built-in store, an advanced report builder, SOC 2 and ISO 27001 certification, and a long list of HR and CRM connectors. Its pricing page also says it is not a fit under 100 users, and plans are quoted.
LMS Advisor overlaps on the training side and differs on three points that decide many evaluations: exams can be proctored natively and sat by people who are not enrolled anywhere, the product runs on your own server as well as our cloud, and a self-hosted install can be bought on a one-time license. Below is where each product wins, with every LearnUpon fact taken from LearnUpon’s own site and help center.

Choosing between the two
LMS Advisor is the better fit if
- You run certification or pre-hire exams that need webcam proctoring, ID capture and an evidence trail, which LearnUpon’s pages do not offer.
- Candidates sit exams without a course enrollment, invited by email or signed in with a one-time code.
- You have fewer than 100 learners, or want a quote at any size.
- You want the LMS on your own server, with a one-time license instead of a subscription.
LearnUpon is the better fit if
- You need separate branded sub-portals per customer or partner audience with a store that takes payment itself.
- Your security review requires SOC 2 and ISO 27001 from the vendor.
- You want a drag-and-drop report builder, a Go1 course library and connectors for ADP, Dayforce or SAP SuccessFactors.
Where the two really differ
Six differences come up in nearly every LearnUpon conversation. Portals, the store and reporting favor LearnUpon. Exams, hosting and the license model favor LMS Advisor.
Proctoring is built into the exam
LearnUpon’s exam options cover timing, attempts, randomization and pass marks, and its pages name no proctoring. LMS Advisor adds webcam snapshots, AI face checks, fullscreen lockdown, ID photo capture and violation limits as settings on each exam.
Candidates who never join a course
In LearnUpon an exam is a module inside a course. Our Test Center has its own candidate portal with email invites and one-time-code sign-in, so certification bodies and hiring teams examine outsiders without creating enrollments.
Portals against organizations
LearnUpon’s sub-portals give each audience its own URL and branding, with course licenses between them. LMS Advisor gives each organization its own logo, colors, sign-in page, seat limit and managers inside one site. Separate white-labeled sites are not something we offer.
Selling: built in against WooCommerce
LearnUpon’s store takes PayPal, Stripe and Authorize.net and handles subscriptions, multi-currency and purchase orders, on the plans that include it. LMS Advisor sells through your WooCommerce store with our plugin and has no checkout of its own.
Under 100 users, or on your own server
LearnUpon’s own FAQ says it is not a fit under 100 users, and it runs only in its AWS cloud. LMS Advisor quotes at any size, installs on ordinary cPanel or VPS hosting, and offers a one-time license for that route.
Reporting and certification go to LearnUpon
LearnUpon has an advanced report builder with scheduling, and holds SOC 2, ISO 27001 and ISO 27701. LMS Advisor exports filtered report views to CSV, Excel and PDF, keeps an audit log, and holds no attestation.
The details that decide a LearnUpon comparison
Who each product is sized for
LearnUpon’s pricing page lists plans starting from 100 users for employees, 150 for associations and 300 for customer education, and its FAQ says it is not a fit below 100 users. Prices are quoted, and several features, including sub-portals, SCIM, the store, the Go1 library and extra languages, depend on the plan. That is a product aimed at mid-sized and larger programs.
LMS Advisor quotes at any size, from a training provider with forty learners to an enterprise with branches in several countries. The cloud is a subscription, and a standard self-hosted install can be bought on a one-time license with updates and support set out in the quote. Nonprofits can ask for a discount or a tailored quote.
Exams and proctoring
LearnUpon’s exam module has six question types, reusable pools, timed exams, limited attempts, randomized order and a pass mark, which covers knowledge checks and most compliance quizzes. Its help center and integrations directory name no proctoring, so high-stakes exams would need a separate tool.
LMS Advisor was built for the exam side. The question bank has 14 types including coding questions that run against test cases, pools, difficulty levels, negative marking and nightly item analysis. Proctoring is configured per exam: periodic webcam snapshots, AI face monitoring, fullscreen lockdown, logged tab switches and copy or paste, ID photo capture, device lock and violation limits. The Test Center examines candidates who are not enrolled anywhere, with email invites, one-time-code access, an appeal step and a results page you control.
Standards and integrations
LearnUpon supports SCORM 1.2 and 2004 and xAPI, and its docs say those two standards only, without multi-SCO sequencing, cmi5 or LTI. LMS Advisor runs SCORM 1.2 and 2004, xAPI with a built-in LRS, cmi5, and acts as an LTI 1.3 tool with grade passback, so a campus LMS can launch our exams.
On connectors LearnUpon is broader: ADP, Dayforce, Gusto, Paycor, Paylocity and SAP SuccessFactors on the HR side, Salesforce, HubSpot and Planhat on the CRM side, plus Zapier, Slack, Intercom and Zendesk. LMS Advisor syncs HR data from BambooHR, Zoho People and Keka, with CSV for anything else, pushes events to HubSpot and Zoho CRM, and offers a REST API and signed webhooks for 15 events. If Salesforce or Workday is the system of record, LearnUpon has the ready-made connector and we have the API.
Where the data lives and who certifies it
LearnUpon runs only in its AWS cloud, with EU, US or Australia residency, and states SOC 2, ISO 27001:2022 and ISO 27701:2019. LMS Advisor runs in our cloud or on your own server, where your own controls and certifications apply, and we hold no attestation of our own. Both offer SAML 2.0 single sign-on and authenticator-based two-factor authentication. SCIM is standard with us and plan-dependent with LearnUpon.
Moving from LearnUpon to LMS Advisor
Export what you own
Download your SCORM and xAPI packages, videos and documents, and export user, enrollment and certificate reports to CSV from LearnUpon’s report builder before the contract ends.
Upload content as lessons
In LMS Advisor, create courses and upload SCORM 1.2 or 2004 and xAPI packages, videos and documents as lessons. Create+ modules export as SCORM 1.2 and upload the same way. Rebuild native quizzes in the question bank.
Map portals to organizations
Each LearnUpon sub-portal becomes an organization with its own branding, sign-in page and managers. Import users by CSV with their organization, or connect SAML and SCIM so the directory creates them.
Rebuild exams, store and go live
Set up proctored exams in the Test Center, connect WooCommerce if you sell courses, reissue current certificates with their expiry dates, and point learners at the new sign-in before you close the LearnUpon portal.
