LMS Advisor vs Litmos

LMS Advisor vs Litmos: which one fits your training?

Litmos is a cloud LMS for employees, customers and partners with a large content library and plans from $8,000 a year. LMS Advisor is built around proctored exams, outside candidates and a server you own. Checked against Litmos’s own public pages in October 2026.

Our honest take

Pick Litmos if you want a large off-the-shelf course library, separate branded tenants for customers and partners, a Salesforce or Workday connector and a SOC 2 and ISO 27001 vendor. Pick LMS Advisor if you run proctored or certification exams, examine candidates who never enroll in a course, need cmi5 or LTI 1.3, or want to self-host on a one-time license.

Litmos, independent again since leaving SAP at the end of 2022, sells a cloud LMS for every audience a company trains: employees, customers and partners in branded, multi-tenant portals, with a content library of more than 17,700 courses as an add-on, a certified Salesforce connector, and plans that start at $8,000 a year for Foundation and $15,000 for Platinum.

LMS Advisor overlaps on compliance training and differs on exams and hosting. Proctoring is a setting on each exam where Litmos’s public pages describe none, candidates can be examined without a course enrollment, and the product runs on your own server as well as our cloud, with a one-time license for that route. One caveat: Litmos keeps its product documentation behind a customer login, so where a detail is not on its public pages we say so rather than guess.

Which one fits

Choosing between the two

LMS Advisor is the better fit if

  • You run certification or pre-hire exams that need webcam proctoring, ID capture and an evidence trail, which Litmos’s public pages do not offer.
  • Candidates sit exams without a course enrollment, or a campus LMS must launch your exams over LTI 1.3.
  • You want SCIM, cmi5 and a question bank with 14 types documented in the open before you sign.
  • You want the LMS on your own server, with a one-time license instead of a subscription.

Litmos is the better fit if

  • You want a library of thousands of ready-made compliance and skills courses inside the LMS.
  • You need separate branded tenants for customers and partners, and a certified Salesforce or Workday connector.
  • Your security review requires SOC 2 and ISO 27001 from the vendor, and a BI feed to Power BI or Tableau.
Where they differ

Where the two really differ

Six differences come up in nearly every Litmos conversation. The content library, enterprise connectors and certification favor Litmos. Exams, hosting and the license model favor LMS Advisor.

Proctoring is built into the exam

Litmos’s public pages on certifications, compliance and assessments name no proctoring. LMS Advisor adds webcam snapshots, AI face checks, fullscreen lockdown, ID photo capture and violation limits as settings on each exam, with the evidence kept for appeals.

Candidates who never join a course

Our Test Center has its own candidate portal with email invites and one-time-code sign-in, so certification bodies and hiring teams examine outsiders without enrollments. Litmos’s public pages describe assessments inside its learning content.

The library is Litmos’s

Litmos sells content libraries as add-ons and cites more than 17,700 courses. LMS Advisor has no library, so content comes from your team, SCORM vendors or AI drafts an author approves.

Documentation in the open

Litmos moved its help center behind a customer login, so question types, SCIM, 2FA and webhook events cannot be checked before you buy. Our fact sheet, feature pages and limits are public, including what we do not do.

A published floor against a quote

Litmos publishes starting prices of $8,000 a year for Foundation and $15,000 for Platinum, with libraries, tenants, BI and API packages as add-ons. LMS Advisor is quoted on learner numbers, modules and hosting, and a self-hosted install can be bought on a one-time license.

Cloud only against your own server

Litmos runs in its own cloud with EU, Australia or US regions and holds SOC 2 Type II and ISO 27001. LMS Advisor runs in our cloud or installs on ordinary cPanel or VPS hosting, where your own controls apply.

In depth

The details that decide a Litmos comparison

What Litmos says in public, and what it does not

Litmos’s public pages describe the shape of the product well: learning paths, instructor-led and virtual sessions, assignments, CEUs, assessments, surveys, e-signatures, branded multi-tenant portals, a shopping cart, a mobile app with offline courses, Litmos AI, and a certified Salesforce connector alongside Workday, ADP, BambooHR, Teams and Zoom. Its trust page states SOC 2 Type II and ISO 27001:2022.

What they do not state is the detail buyers usually want on exams and identity: question types, question banks, time limits, proctoring, SCIM, learner two-factor authentication and cmi5 or LTI support. The help center at support.litmos.com now requires a customer login. We note "not stated" in the table rather than fill the gaps, and suggest you ask Litmos for the answers in writing.

Exams and proctoring

LMS Advisor’s question bank has 14 types including coding questions that run against test cases, image hotspot, audio and video answers, with pools, difficulty levels, negative marking and nightly item analysis. Proctoring is configured per exam: periodic webcam snapshots, AI face monitoring, fullscreen lockdown, logged tab switches and copy or paste, ID photo capture, device lock and violation limits that can end an attempt. The Test Center examines candidates who are not enrolled anywhere, invited by email or signed in with a one-time code, with an appeal step and a results page you control.

Litmos lists assessments, surveys and AI video assessments, and its AI generates quiz questions. For compliance checks that is likely enough. For a remote certification exam, ask Litmos what proctoring it offers, because its public pages name none.

Content, standards and integrations

Litmos’s content library is a strong reason to choose it: more than 17,700 courses are cited across compliance, safety and skills collections, sold as add-ons. Its authoring tool builds mobile-responsive SCORM courses and accepts SCORM 1.2 and 2004, xAPI, AICC, video, PDF and PowerPoint. LMS Advisor has no library; it runs SCORM 1.2 and 2004, xAPI with a built-in LRS and cmi5, and acts as an LTI 1.3 tool with grade passback, which Litmos does not state.

On connectors Litmos is broader for large companies, with a certified Salesforce connector, Workday and ADP. LMS Advisor syncs BambooHR, Zoho People and Keka with CSV for the rest, pushes events to HubSpot and Zoho CRM, and sends signed webhooks for 15 events. Both offer a REST API; Litmos sells API packages as an add-on.

Pricing and hosting

Litmos publishes starting prices: Foundation from $8,000 a year, Platinum from $15,000 a year, and Platinum AI on request, with content libraries, extra tenants, BI, API packages and sandboxes as add-ons (October 2026). Per-user terms and minimums are not stated. It runs only in its own cloud, with EU, Australia or US regions.

LMS Advisor is quote-based on learner numbers, modules and hosting. The cloud is a subscription; a standard self-hosted install on ordinary cPanel or VPS hosting can be bought on a one-time license, with updates and support set out in the quote. We hold no attestation and will say so on your questionnaire.

Switching

Moving from Litmos to LMS Advisor

Export what you own

Download your SCORM, xAPI and AICC packages, videos and documents, and export user, completion and certification reports from Litmos before the subscription ends. Library courses are licensed, not yours, so plan replacements.

Upload content as lessons

In LMS Advisor, create courses and upload SCORM and xAPI packages, videos and documents as lessons. AICC packages need re-export as SCORM. Native Litmos assessments are rebuilt in the question bank, with AI drafts to speed that up.

Map tenants to organizations

Each Litmos tenant or branded portal becomes an organization with its own branding, sign-in page and managers. Import users by CSV with their organization, or connect SAML and SCIM so the directory creates them.

Rebuild exams, store and go live

Set up proctored exams in the Test Center, connect WooCommerce if you sell courses, reissue current certifications with their expiry dates, and point learners at the new sign-in before you close the Litmos account.

FAQ

Questions Litmos users ask us

Does Litmos have proctored exams?
Its public pages do not say so. The certifications, compliance, trust and assessment pages name no webcam, lockdown or identity proctoring, and the help center is behind a customer login. LMS Advisor’s proctoring is native and set per exam, with webcam snapshots, AI face checks, lockdown, ID capture and violation limits.
Can LMS Advisor import my Litmos courses?
There is no direct Litmos importer. SCORM and xAPI packages, videos and documents upload to LMS Advisor as lessons, and users come across by CSV or SCIM. Courses from the Litmos library are licensed from Litmos and do not transfer. Native assessments are rebuilt in our question bank.
Which one is cheaper?
Litmos publishes starting prices of $8,000 a year for Foundation and $15,000 for Platinum, with libraries, extra tenants, BI and API packages as add-ons (October 2026). LMS Advisor is quote-based, and a self-hosted install can be bought on a one-time license. Ask both for a three-year total with your learner numbers and the add-ons you would use.
Does LMS Advisor have a content library like Litmos?
No. Litmos cites more than 17,700 courses across its add-on libraries. LMS Advisor has no library, so content comes from your team, SCORM vendors or AI drafts that an author approves.
Can either product run on my own server?
Only LMS Advisor. Litmos is cloud only with a choice of EU, Australia or US regions. LMS Advisor installs on ordinary cPanel or VPS hosting, updates from the admin, and is the route where the one-time license applies.
Does LMS Advisor connect to Salesforce or Workday?
Not with a ready-made connector. Our CRM sync covers HubSpot and Zoho CRM, HR sync covers BambooHR, Zoho People and Keka, and anything else, including Salesforce and Workday, uses the REST API and webhooks or a CSV upload. Litmos lists a certified Salesforce connector and Workday and ADP integrations.
Why does this page say "not stated" so often for Litmos?
Because Litmos’s product documentation is only available after logging into a Litmos platform, and we only quote what a vendor states in public. Where the table says not stated, ask Litmos for the answer in writing, and ask us for ours.
