What we build

Three ways to get an LMS built, plus the apps, integrations and migration work around it. Tell us the goal and we will say which route fits.

Custom LMS on the LMS Advisor platform

We take our own LMS as the base and add your features, branding and integrations. It runs in our cloud or on your server, and you can have the full source code on your own server with a one-time license option.

From-scratch LMS development

A new LMS designed and built to your specification, not based on our platform. This is the route when your core workflow looks nothing like a standard LMS.

eLearning platform development

For training businesses and academies whose platform is the product: catalogs, accounts for the companies you train, and selling designed around how you earn revenue.

Mobile learning apps

Custom learning apps for iOS and Android, or a branded version of the LMS Advisor app with your name, icon and colors, published under your own store accounts.

Integrations and single sign-on

SAML 2.0 single sign-on, SCIM 2.0 user provisioning, HR and CRM connections over the REST API and webhooks, WooCommerce for selling, Zoom and Google Meet for live sessions.

Standards and content

SCORM 1.2 and 2004, xAPI, cmi5 and LTI 1.3, each named by version in the scope so nobody argues later about what compliant meant.

Migration

We move courses, quizzes and users from your current system, and we plan how completion history and issued certificates carry over before the old platform is switched off.

WordPress LMS development

Builds, custom add-ons and fixes on LearnDash, LifterLMS, Tutor LMS and other WordPress LMS plugins, for course sites where WordPress is still the right home.

Why LMS Advisor

Why hire a team that built its own LMS

The hard parts are solved problems for us

Exam proctoring, SCORM and xAPI tracking, single sign-on, SCIM and certificate verification already work in our own product. We do not learn them on your budget.

We say when not to build

If an off-the-shelf LMS covers your requirements, ours or anyone's, we tell you before you commit to anything.

Source code and a one-time license option

On the platform route you can have the full source code on your own server with a one-time license option and no subscription. The exact license terms are set in the quote.

Your server or our cloud

The same product runs in both. Self-hosting works on ordinary cPanel or VPS hosting, which matters when policy says learner data stays in house.

Own staff, NDA, one project manager

100% own staff and no freelancers. The work is confidential under NDA, and you have direct access to the developer and a dedicated project manager.

Three guarantees

A 100% satisfaction guarantee, guaranteed on-time delivery against the milestones in your quote, and a zero billing guarantee: if the project or the developer does not meet expectations, we do not charge, or we refund the payment.

How we work

From first call to launch

Free consultation

You describe the learners, the content, the systems you already run and the date you are working toward. There is no charge and no commitment.

Options report

We compare configuring a product, customizing our platform and building from scratch for your case, with the trade-offs of each and the route we would pick.

Scope and milestones in the quote

The quote lists what will be built, the milestones, the price and the license terms. Standards, security and accessibility baselines are named here so they get tested.

Build in milestones on staging

Work lands on a staging site one milestone at a time, with a demo at each and regular updates by email, Slack or a project dashboard.

Launch, migration and handover

We run test imports on staging, migrate content and users, go live, then hand over the documentation. Code is kept in Git, and what you receive follows the license terms in your quote.

Typical projects

Work we are asked to do

A training company that sells to client companies

It wants its own branded platform and a way to sell seat packs to the companies it trains. Courses, organizations, manager views and certificates exist in our platform. The selling side is the custom work, because the platform has no checkout of its own and sells through WooCommerce.

A certification body with proctored exams

Candidates sit exams without enrolling in a course, on a computer with native proctoring, and every certificate has a public verification page. The custom part is usually the application, eligibility and renewal workflow around the exam.

An enterprise with data residency rules

Policy says learner data stays on company servers. We install the LMS there, connect SAML single sign-on and SCIM provisioning to the identity provider, and build the HR feed over the REST API.

A course business that outgrew a WordPress plugin

Sometimes the answer is a better WordPress build, and we do that. When the need is proctored exams, single sign-on or scale, we move the courses to LMS Advisor, which imports LearnDash, LifterLMS and Tutor LMS courses.

What an LMS development company should do before it writes code

Before it writes code, an LMS development company should tell you in writing whether you need custom code at all, or whether a product you configure already covers your requirements. Many quotes for LMS development services begin with a feature list and an empty repository. Ours begin one step earlier, because we already built and sell an LMS platform and know how much of a typical specification exists as working software.

That step is a short written comparison of three routes: configure an off-the-shelf LMS, customize the LMS Advisor platform, or build from scratch. You get the trade-offs and one recommendation. If that recommendation is a product you configure yourself, ours or another vendor's, we say so before any build starts.

Configure, customize or build from scratch

The routes differ in what exists on day one, what you own and who carries the upkeep. Our custom LMS development guide compares them row by row. In short:

  • Configure an off-the-shelf LMS. A finished product, ours or another vendor's, set up without new code. It is the quickest route and suits standard training.
  • Customize the LMS Advisor platform. You start with a working LMS, and we develop only your additions. Support and maintenance terms are set in the quote.
  • Build from scratch. You start with a specification and an empty repository, so every screen is designed, built and tested. It is the slowest route and suits a product whose core is not an LMS.

Time is relative on purpose. The milestones for your project are fixed in the quote.

When you should not build a custom LMS

Do not build a custom LMS when an off-the-shelf product already covers your courses, quizzes, certificates and reports, or when nobody will own the software after launch. A custom LMS development company that never says no is selling hours. Skip the build when:

  • Your list is the standard one. That is LMS software you configure. Check LMS Advisor pricing, or any other vendor's, before you budget for development.
  • The only gap is branding or one integration. That is usually a setting, an API connection or a small add-on.
  • You run a small course site on WordPress and it works. A well-built plugin site usually costs less to own, and our WordPress LMS development services cover it.
  • You mainly sell video courses to consumers. A creator platform is made for that.

Build when the learning product is your business, or when a workflow you depend on exists in no product you tested. If the only requirement is code and data on your own servers, a self-hosted product may be enough.

What is already built, so you do not pay for it twice

The LMS Advisor platform already includes an exam center with native proctoring, assessments, certificates, eLearning standards, single sign-on with SCIM, AI tools and mobile apps, so custom work on it covers only the differences. Development gets expensive where it repeats solved work.

AreaAlready in the LMS Advisor platform
ExamsA standalone exam center with native proctoring set per exam: webcam snapshots, AI face monitoring, fullscreen lockdown and an evidence trail a person reviews. A proctored exam needs a computer and cannot be taken in the mobile app
AssessmentsAssessments and quizzes with 13 question types in exams, a question bank and question pools
CertificatesCertificates from a designer, issued automatically, each with a public verification page
Content standardseLearning standards: SCORM 1.2 and 2004 (the common course package formats), xAPI and cmi5 (newer ways to record learning activity), and LTI 1.3 as a tool provider, so another LMS can launch your courses and receive grades
Identity and structureEnterprise management: SAML 2.0 single sign-on, SCIM 2.0 (automatic user provisioning from your directory), branches, organizations, roles and permissions
AI and mobileAI tools that draft courses and questions for a person to approve, and native iOS and Android apps

The platform has limits too. It has no checkout of its own: selling runs through WooCommerce. It has no ready-made CRM or HR connector either, so we build those connections per project over the REST API and webhooks. It holds no SOC 2, ISO 27001 or HIPAA certification.

Who owns the code, the data and the hosting

With LMS Advisor, you own the code we write on a from-scratch build, and on our platform you can have the full source code on your own server with a one-time license option. That option carries no subscription, and the exact license terms are set in the quote.

Data. On your own server, the database and files sit in your infrastructure. In our cloud we host them, and we confirm the hosting location with you before you sign because we do not publish one. On any route, have the contract state that learner records are yours and how they are exported.

Hosting. The platform route runs in our cloud or on your server, and it is the same product in both. A from-scratch build is hosted wherever the specification says.

What drives the cost of LMS development services

The cost of LMS development services depends mainly on scope, integrations, mobile apps, migration and the standards you name, which is why we quote each project and publish no price list. The same project title can hide very different amounts of work.

  1. Scope. How much is new, and how much the platform already does.
  2. Integrations. Each system you connect (identity provider, HR, CRM, store) is its own piece of work.
  3. Mobile apps. A branded version of the existing app is a much smaller job than a custom app.
  4. Migration. Moving courses is the easier part. Learner history, scores and issued certificates take mapping and a test run.
  5. Standards and baselines. Named versions of SCORM, xAPI, cmi5 and LTI, plus any security or accessibility baseline, add build and test work.

Our guide explains what drives the cost of a custom LMS, driver by driver. If you are planning a training product or an academy instead of an internal LMS, read about eLearning platform development. For a number, ask for the free quote.

What to ask any LMS software development company before you sign

Before you sign, ask any LMS software development company who owns the source code, which standards it supports by version, how learner records migrate, who maintains the system and which baselines are tested. Those five answers belong in the contract, whoever you hire. Our custom LMS development guide lists what a good answer to each one sounds like.

Name the security and accessibility baselines at the start so they are scoped and tested. Two public ones are WCAG 2.2 from the W3C, which sets accessibility success criteria at levels A, AA and AAA, and the OWASP Application Security Verification Standard, an open security standard for web apps and web services. Neither is a certificate we hold. They are requirements you set, and the LMS Advisor platform itself claims no WCAG conformance.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

How much do LMS development services cost?
It depends on scope, so we quote each project and publish no price list. The main drivers are how much is new compared with what our platform already does, the number of integrations, mobile apps, migration of learner records, and the standards and baselines you name. The consultation and the quote are free. Our custom LMS development guide explains each driver.
How long does learning management system development take?
It depends on the route, and the milestones are fixed in your quote instead of promised up front. Work that begins on our working platform usually finishes sooner than work that begins with an empty repository. Expect weeks for a focused add-on and, usually, months for a full custom platform.
Who owns the source code?
On a from-scratch build, you own the code we write for you. On a custom LMS built on the LMS Advisor platform, you can have the full source code on your own server with a one-time license option and no subscription. The exact license terms are set in the quote, and all work is covered by an NDA.
What is the difference between a custom LMS on your platform and a from-scratch build?
A custom LMS on our platform starts from working software, while a from-scratch build starts from your specification alone. On the platform, courses, exams with proctoring, certificates, single sign-on and mobile apps exist on day one, and we develop only what is specific to you. From scratch makes sense when your core workflow is not an LMS workflow. We tell you which one fits after the free consultation.
Can you customize the LMS we already use?
Yes if it runs on WordPress, and no if it is Moodle or another open-source LMS. We customize and maintain WordPress LMS plugins such as LearnDash, LifterLMS and Tutor LMS. We do not sell Moodle customization, but we do move organizations out of Moodle: LMS Advisor imports Moodle .mbz course backups. Our LMS migration checklist shows what to plan first.
Do you build mobile learning apps?
Yes, for iOS and Android. You can have a branded version of the LMS Advisor app with your name, icon and colors, published under your own Apple and Google developer accounts, or a custom mobile learning app built to your specification. Apple and Google review every app, so we never promise an approval date. Proctored exams are taken on a computer, not in the app. The mobile app page shows what exists today.
Do you support SCORM, xAPI, cmi5 and LTI?
Yes. The LMS Advisor platform runs SCORM 1.2 and SCORM 2004 packages, xAPI and cmi5 content, and works as an LTI 1.3 tool provider with grade passback. Two limits to know: it is not an LTI consumer, and multi-SCO SCORM packages with sequencing launch only their entry resource. On a from-scratch build we scope each standard by version.
Can we host the LMS on our own servers?
Yes. The LMS Advisor platform runs self-hosted on your own server, including ordinary cPanel or VPS hosting, or in our cloud, and it is the same product both ways. Self-hosted installs come with in-app backup and system-health tools. If you choose our cloud, we confirm the hosting location with you before you sign. More on security and data ownership.
