Course export and import for one course or the whole catalog
Pick the courses, press Export, and download a single package with every lesson, file and package inside. Import it on another site, check the preview, and each course arrives as a draft ready to review.
At a glance
- Many courses in one file
- SCORM, xAPI and cmi5 included
- Videos, documents and media
- Preview before anything is created
- All or nothing per course
Most course moves we have been asked to help with start the same way: someone exports the outline, then spends a week re-uploading videos, SCORM zips and handouts one lesson at a time. A training provider with 40 courses for 12 clients cannot afford that every time a client wants their own site.
LMS Advisor packs everything a course owns into one file. Choose a single course from its edit page, or bulk select dozens from the course list, and the export runs in the background while you carry on working. The import side reads the package, shows you exactly what will be created, and brings each course in as a separate draft.
Why moving courses usually hurts
Exports that leave the heavy parts behind
An outline comes across, but the SCORM packages, videos and handouts have to be found and uploaded again by hand.
One course at a time
A catalog of 50 courses means 50 exports, 50 imports and 50 chances to miss one.
Broken links after the move
Pictures inside lessons and modules still point at the old site, so they disappear the day it is switched off.
No idea what will land
Importing blind creates duplicate categories, half-built courses and a clean-up job nobody budgeted for.
One package, everything inside
A course package is one .zip that holds the course, its lessons and every file they use. Export and import run as background jobs with a progress bar, so a 5 GB catalog does not tie up your browser.
Many courses in one file
Bulk select courses in the course list, or select everything a filter matches, and export them together. Files shared between courses are stored once.
SCORM, xAPI and cmi5 included
The original package travels inside the zip and is checked and unpacked again on the new site, so tracking works from the first launch.
Videos, documents and media
Uploaded videos, captions, chapters, audio, lesson documents and the Media Library pictures used in text and modules all come across and are re-linked.
Preview before anything is created
See every course, its lessons and sizes, which category and certificate design will be matched or created, and untick anything you do not want.
All or nothing per course
Each course is imported completely or not at all. If one course in a batch fails, its files are cleaned up and the rest carry on.
Large files that survive a dropped connection
Uploads go in 8 MB pieces and pick up where they stopped, and a command-line tool on the server handles very large catalogs.
What travels and how it is checked
What a package carries
Course settings, the category, the certificate design, the thumbnail, translations, the glossary and prerequisites. Sections and every lesson with its release and order rules. Uploaded, YouTube, Vimeo and embedded videos with captions and chapters. Lesson documents, study files and course materials. SCORM 1.2, SCORM 2004, xAPI and cmi5 packages. Lesson language versions with their own videos and packages. Quizzes and their questions (hotspot images and regions included), assignments with rubrics, gradebook items and interactive modules with their pictures. When two courses in the same package depend on each other, the prerequisite points at the new copy after import.
What stays on the original site
Enrollments, progress, grades, submissions and issued certificates are learner records, so they never leave the site where they were earned. Course passwords, enrollment keys, meeting passcodes and webhook addresses are secrets and are not written into the file either. Every imported course starts as a draft owned by the person who imported it, so nothing reaches learners until someone has looked at it and published it.
How an uploaded package is checked
The importer treats every package as untrusted. It reads an exact list of expected entries and refuses anything that tries to climb out of its folder, uses a blocked file type, is encrypted or expands far beyond its compressed size. Every file is checked against its SHA-256 fingerprint from the manifest. Pictures are decoded and saved again, lesson text goes through the same cleaning as the editor, and SCORM packages pass the same safety checks as a fresh upload before they are unpacked. Each export and import is written to the audit log with the package fingerprint.
Who can do it
Super admins, admins and course managers can export and import. A course manager exports only the courses they manage, and imported media is matched only against items they could already use. Managers, branch managers and instructors do not see the buttons and the server refuses them.
Older exports
Packages made by earlier versions of LMS Advisor, including the original .json exports, still import through the same screen.

Import and publish
Confirm, open each new draft from the results list, check it and publish.
Who moves courses around
A client gets their own site
A training provider exports the 14 courses a client bought and imports them on the client's new LMS Advisor site in one batch, SCORM modules and all.
Staging to production
An L&D team builds and tests a new onboarding program on a staging site, then moves the finished courses across without rebuilding anything.
Merging two sites
After an acquisition, the smaller company's catalog is exported once and imported into the group site, with categories matched by name.
A course library to share
A franchise head office sends a package of standard courses to each franchise site every quarter.
What you get back
- One file for a single course or a whole catalog
- SCORM, video and document lessons that work straight after import
- A clear preview before anything is created
- Learner records and secrets that never leave the original site
- Drafts to review, so nothing goes live by accident
