LMS Advisor vs Tovuti

LMS Advisor vs Tovuti: which one fits your training?

Tovuti is a cloud LMS with rich authoring, a virtual classroom and its own checkout, from $7,500 a year for 100 learners. LMS Advisor puts proctored exams, outside candidates and your own server first. Checked against Tovuti’s own pages in October 2026.

Our honest take

Pick Tovuti if you want dozens of interactive content types, a built-in checkout, a virtual classroom and a vendor with a long compliance list, and your tests are simple quizzes. Pick LMS Advisor if you run proctored or certification exams with rich question types, examine candidates who never enroll in a course, need cmi5 or LTI, or want to self-host on a one-time license.

Tovuti’s pitch is breadth in one subscription: more than 40 interactive content types, gamification, events, a built-in virtual classroom, branded portals, ecommerce and a report builder, with a published price that starts at $7,500 a year for 100 annual learners. Its compliance page lists SOC 2 Type 2, ISO 27001, HIPAA and 21 CFR Part 11 among others.

LMS Advisor is narrower on content types and deeper on exams. Its question bank has 14 types where Tovuti’s native quiz has three, proctoring is a setting on each exam where Tovuti’s pages describe none, candidates can be examined without a course enrollment, and the product runs on your own server as well as our cloud. Below is where each product wins, with every Tovuti fact taken from Tovuti’s own site and help center.

Which one fits

Choosing between the two

LMS Advisor is the better fit if

  • You run certification or pre-hire exams that need webcam proctoring, ID capture and an evidence trail, which Tovuti’s pages do not offer.
  • Your assessments need coding, hotspot, audio or video answers rather than three question types.
  • Candidates sit exams without a course enrollment, or a campus LMS must launch your exams over LTI 1.3.
  • You want the LMS on your own server, with a one-time license instead of a subscription.

Tovuti is the better fit if

  • You want dozens of interactive content types, a built-in virtual classroom and gamification in one subscription.
  • You sell courses and want checkout, subscriptions and promo codes inside the LMS.
  • Your security review wants SOC 2, ISO 27001, HIPAA or 21 CFR Part 11 listed by the vendor, and you want a published starting price.
Where they differ

Where the two really differ

Six differences come up in nearly every Tovuti conversation. Content types, checkout and the compliance list favor Tovuti. Exams, question types and hosting favor LMS Advisor.

Proctoring is built into the exam

Tovuti’s quiz settings cover time, passing score and retries, and its only webcam controls belong to the virtual classroom. LMS Advisor adds webcam snapshots, AI face checks, fullscreen lockdown, ID photo capture and violation limits as settings on each exam.

Fourteen question types against three

Tovuti’s native quiz offers multiple choice, multi-select and free text, with H5P-style activities for practice. Our exam bank has 14 types including coding questions that run against test cases, image hotspot, audio and video answers, with pools and item analysis.

Tovuti wins on content variety

More than 40 interactive content types, a PowerPoint importer, gamification and a built-in virtual classroom make Tovuti a strong authoring platform. LMS Advisor has interactive modules, interactive video and a Recording Studio, and uses Zoom or Google Meet for live sessions.

cmi5 and LTI, or neither

Tovuti’s upload docs list cmi5, LTI and Common Cartridge as unsupported and need an external LRS for xAPI. LMS Advisor runs cmi5, stores xAPI statements in a built-in LRS, and acts as an LTI 1.3 tool with grade passback.

A published price against a quote

Tovuti publishes one plan from $7,500 a year for 100 annual learners, billed annually. LMS Advisor is quoted on learner numbers, modules and hosting, and a self-hosted install can be bought on a one-time license.

Cloud only against your own server

Tovuti is vendor-hosted with a weekly maintenance window. LMS Advisor runs in our cloud or installs on ordinary cPanel or VPS hosting with in-app updates.

In depth

The details that decide a Tovuti comparison

Authoring and content

Tovuti’s authoring is its strongest card. The course editor offers more than 40 interactive content types, from word searches and memory games to image hotspots and interactive video, plus a PowerPoint importer and an opt-in third-party content library. The Dizi assistant drafts lessons and quizzes, and the WayPoints AI authoring tool is sold separately. If engagement-style content is the main job, Tovuti has more to work with.

LMS Advisor’s authoring covers interactive modules with required blocks, interactive video with timestamped questions, a Recording Studio and AI drafting for a person to approve. Content made elsewhere uploads as SCORM 1.2 or 2004, xAPI or cmi5. There is no content library.

Exams and proctoring

Tovuti’s native quiz has three question types, question banks, CSV import, randomized order, a maximum time, a passing score and retries, including a retake of only the incorrect answers. Its pages describe no proctoring. That is enough for compliance checks and course quizzes, and not enough for a remote certification exam.

LMS Advisor’s question bank has 14 types with pools, difficulty levels, negative marking and nightly item analysis. Proctoring is configured per exam: periodic webcam snapshots, AI face monitoring, fullscreen lockdown, logged tab switches and copy or paste, ID photo capture, device lock and violation limits that can end an attempt. The Test Center examines candidates who are not enrolled anywhere, invited by email or signed in with a one-time code, with an appeal step and a results page you control.

Standards and integrations

Tovuti accepts AICC, SCORM 1.2 and 2004 and xAPI, single-SCO only, and needs a connected external LRS for xAPI content. Its docs list cmi5, LTI and IMS Common Cartridge as unsupported. LMS Advisor runs SCORM 1.2 and 2004, xAPI with its own LRS, cmi5, and acts as an LTI 1.3 tool with grade passback, so a university or client LMS can launch your exams.

Tovuti has native ADP, BambooHR, Workday, Salesforce and Zoom integrations, an open API, and reaches other apps and webhooks through Zapier. LMS Advisor syncs HR data from BambooHR, Zoho People and Keka with CSV for anything else, pushes events to HubSpot and Zoho CRM, and sends signed webhooks for 15 events directly, with Zapier, Make and n8n connecting through them.

Pricing, hosting and compliance

Tovuti’s pricing page shows one plan that starts at $7,500 a year for 100 annual learners, billed annually and scaling by learner count, with WayPoints AI and LMS-as-a-Service as add-ons (October 2026). Branded native apps cost extra. It is vendor-hosted, and its compliance page lists SOC 2 Type 2, ISO 27001, GDPR, HIPAA, 21 CFR Part 11, WCAG 2.1 AA and PCI.

LMS Advisor is quote-based on learner numbers, modules and hosting. The cloud is a subscription; a standard self-hosted install on ordinary cPanel or VPS hosting can be bought on a one-time license, with updates and support set out in the quote. We hold no attestation and will say so on your questionnaire; what you get instead is the option to keep the data inside your own network.

Switching

Moving from Tovuti to LMS Advisor

Export what you own

Download your SCORM, AICC and xAPI packages, videos and documents, and run user, education and transactions reports from Tovuti’s report builder to a spreadsheet.

Upload content as lessons

In LMS Advisor, create courses and upload SCORM and xAPI packages, videos and documents as lessons. AICC packages need re-export as SCORM. Interactive content types without a package are rebuilt in the module builder or drafted by AI from your source material.

Map brands to organizations

Each Tovuti brand or portal becomes an organization with its own branding, sign-in page and managers. Import users by CSV, or connect SAML and SCIM so your directory creates them.

Rebuild exams, store and go live

Rebuild quizzes in the question bank, set up proctored exams in the Test Center, connect WooCommerce if you sell courses, reissue current certificates with their expiry dates, and point learners at the new sign-in.

FAQ

Questions Tovuti users ask us

Does Tovuti have proctored exams?
Its pages do not describe any. Quiz settings cover time, passing score, retries and randomization, and the only webcam controls belong to the built-in virtual classroom. LMS Advisor’s proctoring is native and set per exam, with webcam snapshots, AI face checks, lockdown, ID capture and violation limits.
Can LMS Advisor import my Tovuti courses?
There is no direct Tovuti importer. SCORM and xAPI packages, videos and documents upload to LMS Advisor as lessons, and users come across by CSV or SCIM. Tovuti’s interactive content types and native quizzes are rebuilt in our module builder and question bank, with AI drafts to speed that up.
Which one is cheaper?
Tovuti publishes one plan from $7,500 a year for 100 annual learners, billed annually, with AI authoring and branded apps as extras (October 2026). LMS Advisor is quote-based, and a self-hosted install can be bought on a one-time license. Ask us for a quote with your learner numbers and compare three-year totals.
Does Tovuti support cmi5 or LTI?
No. Tovuti’s upload documentation lists cmi5, IMS LTI and IMS Common Cartridge as unsupported, and xAPI content needs an external LRS. LMS Advisor runs cmi5, keeps xAPI statements in a built-in LRS, and is an LTI 1.3 tool with grade passback.
Can either product run on my own server?
Only LMS Advisor. Tovuti is vendor-hosted with a weekly maintenance window and states no self-hosted option. LMS Advisor installs on ordinary cPanel or VPS hosting, updates from the admin, and is the route where the one-time license applies.
Does LMS Advisor have a virtual classroom like Tovuti?
Not a built-in one. LMS Advisor runs live sessions through Zoom or Google Meet, with reminders, a learner calendar feed and automatic Zoom attendance. Tovuti includes its own virtual classroom with host and participant camera controls.
Which one is better for security questionnaires?
Tovuti’s compliance page lists SOC 2 Type 2, ISO 27001, HIPAA, 21 CFR Part 11, WCAG 2.1 AA and PCI. LMS Advisor holds no attestation. What we offer instead is self-hosting inside your own network, SAML and SCIM, two-factor authentication, retention settings and an audit log.
